MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage)

MLD, also known as Manual Lymphatic Drainage,

is a light touch modality developed by Dr Emmil Vodder in 1936.

MLD does NOT involve pushing fluids out of incisions. If you are told that it is, then you do not want to see that therapist.

MLD involves light touch to increase the flow of lymphatic fluids through the lymphatic system at up to 10 times the normal speed. This increase can last from 24 to 48 hours.

Even healthy individuals should have MLD performed at least once a year to help with the prevention of future issues. Kind of like how you have a car tune up or oil change from time to time to keep your vehicle running optimally. By the time most people find out that they lymphatic issues, many years of neglect have already caused major issues within, which can take a longer to clear up and allow the system to work efficiently again.

Even athletes need to have professional MLD a few times within the season to help keep lymph moving and allow the body to work in top condition.

MLD is also used pre- and post-surgery to prevent excessive bruising, allowing incisions to heal properly and quickly, as well as lower chances of swelling.

John is trained by Elisa DiFalco of the MLD Intitute International and is also an instructor there as well.
